We are happy to release four new online courses covering Regulation P & B, associated consumer privacy issues, and related rules. Designed for banking institutions and other companies in regulated financial industries, these learning modules offer a customizable, interactive set of courses to address consumer privacy-related training needs for staff and management.
Consumer data privacy is fast becoming a boardroom conversation—and regulators are doubling down. To stay ahead of liabilities and keep pace with industry best practices, financial institutions need flexible, robust training they can leverage across multiple functions and jurisdictions. Vubiz’s new online courses covering Regulation P and B offer institutions a scalable way to deploy role-based training on consumer privacy to staff and leadership.
“Privacy is no longer just a box to be checked. It’s a key element of consumer trust, compliance resilience, and competitive differentiation,” said Jim Rapino, President and CEO at Vubiz. “With these new courses, institutions can start to deploy cohesive, role-based training that reflects both the legal landscape and their internal context.”
About New Privacy of Consumer Financial Information Courses
- Regulation P: Consumer Privacy — Customer vs. Consumer: Explores the distinction between “customers” and “consumers” of financial products, and how privacy-related obligations differ under Regulation P.
- Regulation P and the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act (GLBA): Examines the interplay between Regulation P and GLBA, how financial institutions must treat nonpublic personal information, and how to use GLBA as a framework for privacy compliance.
- Regulation P: Consumer Privacy Exceptions (Sections 13, 14 & 15): Details the exemptions and exceptions to privacy rules in Regulation P (Sections 13, 14, 15) that allow sharing of nonpublic personal information in limited circumstances (servicing, joint marketing, processing) and the safeguards and conditions for permissible exceptions.
- Regulation B: Special Purpose Credit Program (SPCP): Addresses the special purpose credit programs covered under Regulation B (credit access for minority or underserved groups), how those offerings interact with privacy obligations, and fair lending considerations.
These courses cover key concepts, including definitions and regulatory frameworks, special-purpose programs, and permissible exceptions, giving financial institutions a well-rounded overview of privacy-related liabilities and training topics.
Why Now? Privacy, Risk & Reputation
Consumer privacy is an emerging source of competition—and an area of regulatory scrutiny. Regulation P (12 C.F.R. Part 1016) requires financial institutions to notify customers of their privacy policies, restrict disclosure of nonpublic personal information to nonaffiliated third parties unless consumers opt out, and maintain restrictions on redisclosure and reuse of that information.
GLBA’s privacy and safeguards rules similarly mandate that financial institutions manage information disclosure and implement technical and administrative safeguards for nonpublic personal information.
Financial institutions may have gaps in training. Frontline staff may not be aware of the distinction between customers and consumers, for example, while compliance leadership may lack familiarity with exceptions or special programs. These knowledge gaps can lead to inconsistencies in practice, increased regulatory risk, or reputational exposure.
Vubiz’s new online courses address those gaps by giving institutions the ability to scale harmonized training for all staff levels and functions, so everyone from tellers to compliance officers has a shared and comprehensive understanding of privacy rules.
Customization to Institutional Policies & Risk Models
Each module has been designed for customization, and organizations can easily embed their own privacy policies, internal definitions (e.g., of “customers” vs. “consumers”), internal thresholds or triggering points for data sharing, or internal credit-offering programs to be consistent with institutional risk models and policies.
Interactive Learning = Real Understanding
Vubiz learning solutions don’t rely on passive presentations. Scenario-based decision branches, quizzes, knowledge checks, and realistic case studies create an interactive learning experience that reinforces knowledge and true understanding, rather than simple memorization.
Helpful for Serving Both Staff and Management
The courses are useful for multiple audiences: customer-facing staff need to understand how to handle privacy notice interactions and opt-out requests, operations and compliance roles require serious understanding of exceptions and interplay with GLBA, and senior leadership can use the exceptions and special purpose credit program (SPCP) courses to inform strategic direction. This means the training can be consistent and non-siloed across the institution.
